Eureka Self Storage was designed by Lee Cameron with the help of Steel Storage. It was close to 2 years from the initial contract to buy the property through to the moving-in stage. “The site was an ex service station site, therefore the two existing buildings had to be demolished, cleared of concrete pavement and then cut and filled to level the site off” says Lee.
Eureka Storage opened its first stage in September 2008 with 250 units which was stage over 3 fit out periods. Stage to of Eureka Self Storage was designed to be ready to start as soon as sufficient demand and growth forecasts indicated it was the right time. “Stage 2 took the project up to 3 levels after successfully gaining an amended Development Approval for the second stage to go over 10 metres in height. This will gave Eureka about 5000 square metres of lettable space”, adds Lee.
Even with an economic downturn, the expectation for growth in the prominent location remained on track. The location of Eureka Self Storage is one of its greatest assets. The site cannot be missed if you are travelling to and from the Sunshine Coast and the outer northern suburbs and commuter towns such as Bribie and Caboolture just a few km’s north of the Eureka site. A large proportion of Eureka’s customers had been watching the site be developed as they travelled along the Bruce Highway on the east (6 lane free way) and Old Gympie Road on the west which has become a major service road for the surrounding suburbs to get to Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast.
The design of Eureka Self Storage incorporated decorative panels that articulate the building façade and partially hide the fire exit stairs. Together with the changing colour bond colours, it presents a different architectural statement to most storage facilities which is what the council desired for the site, as Eureka Self Storage is the first structure that is viewed as people enter Moreton Shire.
Eureka Storage offers 24 hour access to all of their customers 7 days a week with ease of access (including B Doubles) and a north south driveway which is great for maintenance. All units are alarmed and there is a resident manager on site. The office is open Monday to Friday 8-5 and Saturday 9-12 or by appointment. Lee Cameron says “because the manager of Eureka Self Storage is such a committed staff member, they seem to be working any time there is a demand for a customer! When looking at staff qualities to fit the Eureka brand Lee says “honesty and a love to produce a satisfied customer are two prime qualities we look for in a manager. They should also be loyal and not be easily flustered with things happening all around them at one time. They must be motivated to achieve goals and love the job. It makes for happy customers too”.
An additional service that Eureka offers is mobile storage. If a customer finds that they could use a mobile storage space then we can offer this through Australian Mobile Storage (AMS)”, says Lee Cameron. “This service gives them a benefit as they only have to hand their goods twice, once to pack and then once to unpack. It is stored in one of our larger units until they need it. Then it is forked onto the trailer and they come and get the trailer or Eureka will deliver the mobile unit and they unload it at their door. This is not suitable to all customers but is a great add-on service we offer. If they don’t wish to do the packing we can arrange that to be done or if they don’t have a car to tow the specially designed trailer; then Australian Mobile Storage deliver the box to them and then pick it up when loaded and either storage it at Eureka if we have space, or at the AMS secure warehouse”.
Eureka also offers forklift services for commercial deliveries, all kinds of packaging supplies, meeting room, kitchenette and shower facilities.
