It is with honour and pride that I step into the role of Chairman for the Self Storage Association of Australasia. As my first order of business, on behalf of all members and the Board, I would like to formally thank Gary Vick for his exceptional contribution to the SSAA in his role on the board and ultimately as the Chairman of the Board between Oct 2011 & Oct 2014. Gary brought a wealth of knowledge and experience, from inside and outside of our industry, to his role as the Chairman. Under Gary’s leadership the Board has negotiated some challenging times and, as an Association, we are in a much stronger position than ever before as a direct result of his hard work and dedication. We wish him all the best with his future endeavours, whether they be at the helm of Guardian Storage or behind one of his road bikes heading towards the horizon on another adventure.
Recently we have seen some significant changes in the SSAA office. However, I would like to report that our new CEO, Simone Hill, and her team are doing a fantastic job for the association and, along with the Board, we are continually enhancing our strategies to take the Association into the future. The recent convention on the Gold Coast was the most attended conference since our conception and it was a huge success.
Over the next 2 years in my role as Chairman, I would like to achieve a number of things. On the top of my list is to gain a better understanding of what you, our members, want and expect from your Association. I would like to learn what really matters to our members and how the Association and the Board can best meet your expectations and needs.
A little about me… My personal journey in the world of self storage began in 1999. Over the past 15 years I have had the opportunity to have a very “hands on” understanding and approach to all levels of a self storage business, from start-up through to managing our group of companies in Melbourne with 8 large facilities. This experience allows me to bring a diverse and wide understanding of self storage companies, of all shapes and sizes, to the table and to be able to serve and understand the members at all levels of our diverse membership group.
With this in mind, I am really hoping to see you at one of the many upcoming SSAA events. Please take the time to introduce yourself and tell me what you want most from the SSAA. If you don’t have an opportunity to attend an event, please feel free to contact me directly as I would like to hear your input and advice.
The Self Storage association of Australasia is currently celebrating 25 years of service and we plan to continually evolve and improve our services to benefit our members today and into the future, however, to achieve this we need your help and advice. The past 25 years has seen our industry change and adapt to the growing needs of our communities and we want to make sure that your association continues to develop, improve and cater for the needs of its members in the ever changing world of self storage, both today and well into the future.
